Privacy policy
The short version
FreeBits Apps does not collect your personal information through its apps. Our apps have no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no third-party tracking. The sections below explain where your data lives and which Apple services touch it.
Crankle
Your rankings and settings
The rankings you create and your settings are stored on your iPhone. FreeBits Apps does not receive them and has no server that holds them.
Apple Music
Crankle asks for permission to use Apple Music so it can search the catalog and play albums. Those requests go from your device to Apple and are covered by Apple's privacy policy. FreeBits Apps does not see what you search for or play.
iCloud sync and sharing
If you are signed in to iCloud, Crankle uses Apple's CloudKit to keep your rankings in sync across your devices. Your rankings are stored in your own private iCloud storage, which FreeBits Apps cannot read.
If you share a ranking, the people you invite with their Apple Account can see and work on that ranking, including the album and the order of its songs. Sharing is handled by Apple, and you can stop sharing at any time from the ranking's share screen.
To keep rankings up to date, iCloud sends Crankle silent background notifications. Crankle does not send marketing notifications.
Purchases
The optional theme unlock is a one-time purchase handled entirely by the App Store. FreeBits Apps never receives your payment details. Crankle only checks with the App Store whether you have unlocked the themes, and a "Restore Purchases" button in the app's Settings re-checks this.
Album artwork
Crankle loads album artwork from Apple's servers to show it and to pick matching colors. Those requests go to Apple, not to FreeBits Apps.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, and GitHub may log technical information such as visitors' IP addresses, as described in GitHub's privacy statement. FreeBits Apps does not have access to those logs.
Children
Our apps are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data we hold about you
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to share, sell or delete. To remove Crankle's data yourself, delete the app from your iPhone. To remove synced copies, manage Crankle's data in iPhone Settings under your name, then iCloud.
Support requests are made as issues on GitHub. An issue, along with the GitHub username of whoever posted it, is public and is handled under GitHub's privacy statement, so please don't include personal information in one.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here and update the effective date above.
